Akuba Studios was founded by Jean Oseth in March of 1994.

Many people ask where the name Akuba came from. The logo is an image of the African Akuba doll. This figure is carved by the Asante tribe in Ghana. Jean has an art history minor, and African art history was her favorite. One particular project was to either write a paper about your favorite figure, or carve it. Jean elected to carve it, which ended up turning into a four-month project. Needless to say, she got to know the figure very well, so out of respect for the awful carving job, she named her studio after it.

In May 1996, work had become too overwhelming for Jean, so she hired Maureen Lehmann, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin– Whitewater with a BA in graphic design and a minor in advertising. Akuba Studios was honored with an American Advertising Federation ADDY Award in February of 2000, along with 2 Silver Awards. Akuba Studios is very proud of their accomplishments, and we continue to grow and enjoy our business.
